WHAT IS HAND STAMPING?

Handstamping is a traditional jewellery-making technique where individual metal stamps are hammered by hand to create impressions into the jewellery. This process is repeated over and over, one letter at a time, imprinting your chosen words, names or numbers to make it uniquely yours. In a world of mass-production, there is something so special about slow made jewellery that carries a personal touch.

Every upper case letter, lower case letter, every number and symbol has its own individual metal stamp. There are different sizes and different fonts (so yes, I have hundreds of them!)The quality of the metal stamps is really important as not all stamps are created equal! A better quality (yes this means more expensive) stamp makes a crisper, clearer impression.

It takes a keen eye and steady hand to align the wording. The force of the strike is very important and varies depending on the type of metal being stamped.  No two pieces will ever be the same as the depth, alignment and spacing is unique to every piece created. Once an impression has been made, it cannot be undone. There are no erasers or second chances! I love the organic, free flowing feel of handstamping and that so much love, care and attention goes into every piece.
